MacMachine Some edited footages I shot during a New York City trip for Human Rights Watch International Film Festival and the New York Asian Film Festival in June 2005. Nearly mugged wandering around. It's a little tribute to this lovely city and people but NOT to Bush and his administration. It got this wonderful creative aura energy that hard to explain. Anyway, this video here will tell on how I felt being in the "City That Never Sleeps". Edited with the background music of U2 from the album "All that you can't leave behind, New York - 2000 ".

Ramadan advice by Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

" So I wish you all without exception ..
(muslims, christians, jews,..... every life form on earth)
رمضان كريم Ramadan Kareem.
May we come out of it as better versions of ourselves. "

Ramadhan is the month where Allah gives you guidance if you are sincere. “Say: Ya Rabbi, I want to be guided by you. I am fasting from food and nonsense talking and I will read Quran from the beginning to the end.” If you are sincere, you will be guided. The first 10 days of Ramadhan are the days of Mercy, second 10 days are days of Forgiveness and the last 10 are Freedom from Hellfire. “Submit to Allah & Allah will guide us.” Finally, he said, “Eat a bit, pray tarawih and then continue eating moderately. Also, don’t miss sahur.”

a) Don’t get distracted by the TV in Ramadhan.
b) Ramadhan is the month of mercy - ask from Allah in this month with an open heart
c) Fast from anything which Allah does not like.
d) Purify your intentions and you will receive Allah’s help. Imam Bukhari used to teach 25,000 students. Without any microphone, all the students from those sitting right in front of him and all the way to the back, every one of the students can hear him clearly. This is the result of good intentions.
e) What makes Ramadhan special is that the Holy Quran was sent down in that month, therefore, spend time doing Quranic recitation.

To live happily ever after, look into 4 matters:
1) Silence: Do not talk nonsense, like back-biting, fitnah etc.
2) Speech: When you talk, talk with wisdom. If speaking is like silver, silence is golden.
3) Sight: Are you looking at something which Allah redha or are you looking at something haram. (I am trying very hard on this, good to go for meditation retreat)
4) Movement: Watch what you are doing.

“So, don’t just write them down, implement them,” the shaykh said (Heh). “My advice is, look forward for spirituality.”

Lastly, Shaykh Hisham mentioned one particular du’a. I think it was based on the following hadith: From Abu Umamah (ra), he said: We heard Rasulullah (saw) make many supplications but we don’t memorize any of them. So, we went to see him and said, “Ya Rasulullah! You have made all kinds of supplications, but we have not memorized any.” Rasulullah (saw) answered, “Would you like me to show you how you can combine all of them into one? You should say:

Allahumma inni as’aluka min khairi ma sa’alaka minhu nabiyyuka Muhammadun sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam. Wa `a`udhu bika min sharri mas-ta`adha minhu nabiyyuka Muhammadun sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam. Wa Antal-Musta`anu, wa `alaikal-balaghu, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

“O Allah, I ask You the good which Your Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked of You; and I seek refuge in You from the evil where from Your Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) sought refuge. You are the One from Whom help is sought and from You comes Help. There is no power or strength except with Allah the Exalted, the Great.’’’

pirate
“ Better to be a Pirate than to join the Navy ”

Steve Jobs - Referring to the pirate flag that flew over Apple’s headquaters in 1983. I believe that quote was one of three keyphrases for a large Apple meeting/conference, and the Pirate flag was attached to the Macintosh building after that meeting. So the flag was actually a reaction to that.
